Lessons & Tuning

Lessons    Beginner Level

Service Description:

This is a great entry level lesson session that's perfect for beginners. Its a great chance to ask any questions you may have while providing a boost in confidence knowing you have some guidance.

"The goal" is to have fun and to develop the right techniques from the beginning which is very important.

Bad habits develop fast in the early stages of learning archery and are hard to unlearn further down the road.

Once a good technique is established you can then start developing the proper muscle memory and strength to be consistent and repeatable. Being consistent will help you shoot longer distances and become more accurate overall.

We don't want to swamp the student with to much info because it can be overwhelming. Encouragement and the proper guidance goes a long way.

STANCE - GRIP - PROPER DRAW - FORM - BACK TENTION - RELEASE

Lessons      Advanced

Service Description:

*** This service would be great for an archer that is serious about stepping up there game. We highly recommend a basic bow tuning session before starting. Usually recommended for an archer that has developed strength and is shooting approximately 30 yards + with some degree of accuracy. ***

Advanced Sessions cover the following items:   (but not limited to)

- Developing a mental shot process on paper and memorizing it. Saying it put loud with each step helps you train your movements until they become second nature.

- Muscle memory explained and why its so important

- Sight picture (what should I be focused on in my vision / aiming properly)

- Stance (many aspects) Explaining your options. The "whys" and preferences that best suit you

- Grip/Bow Hand Position, Pressure and Bow Torque = Extremally Important

- Proper Draw = Extremally Important!!  Drawing to much weight is never good. Excessive draw poundage you can't handle properly can lead to injury and horrible form. It makes it extremely difficult to keep good technique while shooting. Working your way up in poundage. Proper use of muscle groups, back muscles, etc.

- Super tuning your draw length for an explosive shot. Having it set perfectly for you can make you more steady and stable.

- Over all form and shoulder alignment.

- Proper Shot Execution (this covers many aspects) using your release properly is crucial for being accurate especially after 30 yards.

- Release Aid options and "How to use them correctly" One of the most important parts of your shot.

- Back Tension: Using your back to create tension. Should I know when my shot is going to fire?

- Follow Through: What should it look like and how to make it consistent. If your hand is coming off the shot at different angles each time you will impact in a different location.

- Knowing your effective range and ethical shots on animals. (Can you shoot twice your hunting distance accurately?

- Making each shot count / Develop a 3 arrow rhythm Its not about how many arrows you shoot, its about the quality you put into each arrow. Every shot should be a good shot and a controlled shot.

- Holding steadier on target

Usually after developing a mental shot process and having it on paper, the goal would be to work on one aspect of your shot each session. Over time everything falls together. It takes time and dedication but it is possible to shoot 200 yards and hit your mark. "The Pro's say you should be accurate out to twice the distance you expect to hunt from. You'll be surprised how much progress you will make."

Bow Tuning

Service Description:

*** Its a good idea to have your shot developed before chasing any advanced type of tuning, "paper tuning" is the start ***

A combination of checking your own shot / form and technique by shooting through paper while making tuning adjustments on the bow to achieve perfect arrow flight. This step is usually done again after a new bow has had 300 to 400 shots through it from its brand new state. Your strings stretch and settle in after about 300 shots.

There are many steps and options to tuning depending on your skill level and how picky you are. Paper Tuning / Bare-Shaft Tuning / Group Tuning / Torque Tuning. "Normally what we do for newer archer's is tune their bow with them shooting using the fletched arrow they already have, its simple and effective. As they progress we can explain the other options of professional tuning and shooting." These are the items we check before shooting through paper and making some tuning adjustments.

- Bow Specs: Making sure bow measurements are correct. Have the strings stretched to much?

- Draw Poundage Check and Adjustment:

- Cam timing: Both string stops / limb stops should be touching at the same time

- Drop Away / Limb Driven Arrow Rest Timing: Needs 7" to 10" of arrow support (if applicable)

- Peep Rotation: Adjusting any peep twist from strings settling

- Leveling of Sight and Sighting in: Its good to double check this especially if any tuning adjustments have been made.

Arrow spine is very important, any changes to your arrow at all can drastically effect your bows tune. The bow is tuned to shoot the arrow you have chosen. When shooting a fixed blade broadhead it is crucial to complete this step. This raises your success on the hunt and will make you more accurate when shooting a fixed blade broadhead. Shooting through paper can also tell you where you are as a shooter in your consistency, form and shot release / execution.
